Stamford is a stunning market town, the half way point between London and Harrogate; our clock repair workshops there take up four floors of the former gaoler's house, built in 1558.
Our Hatton Garden or Archway colleagues are open for collection and delivery for clock repair and restoration between Mon-Fri. Clocks are normally taken back to Stamford for any work required.
We can help with care of antique longcase clocks (or grandfather clocks), bracket clocks, carriage clocks, striking and repeating carriage clocks, French mantle clocks, single, double and tripple fusee clocks, and of course, lantern clocks.
EXHIBITIONS
LONGCASE CLOCK FORUM
The British Horological Institute have hosted their first ever forum for longcase clock collectors and restorers. Robert chaired the event; speakers include: George Hadfield (dealer in antique clocks for forty years), John Robey, (noted author and publisher on clocks), Peter Grimwood, (clock restorer and author on moon and calendar work), Matthew Read, (clock restorer, conservator and horology tutor at West Dean College) and Gerald Langley, (noted clock case restorer). "Time and Place" An exhibition by the Antiquarian Horological Society at the Museum of the History of Science, Oxford, ran from 25th November 2006 to 15th April 2007. Covers English Country (not London) Clocks 1600-1840. It was pleasing to note that 5 of the 68 clocks chosen for this pivotal exhibition had been through our workshops!
"BHI 150th". Last year was the Horological Institute's 150th year and the Institute threw a huge show last summer. We exhibited there again and were pleased to see many of our customers and to see the lectures, auctions, unveiling of the three pendulum Project 150 clock, the BHI tourbillon watch goes on sale, stonking raffle with prizes from Rolex, Mont Blanc and others...
There will be another big show this summer at the BHI we will be exhibiting clock repair and dial restoration, so we hope you will join us!
INDEPENDENT WATCH REPAIRERS FORUM
The BHI plan to hold a repairer's one day conference at Upton Hall in 2011. Please ask us or ask Briony at Upton for details. Speakers yet to be confirmed but there will no doubt be plenty of time allowed for swapping notes and tales.

 Originally built in 1558 and given a new facade in 1849 when the adjoining town bridge was re-built, our shop is a typical example of Ketton limestone and Collyweston stone roof construction. We are on the same side of the road
(the old "Great North Road") and just over the bridge from one of Englands great coaching inns: The George Hotel which dates back around a thousand years. It's comfortable rooms and restaurants are soothed by a number of fine antique clocks. |
